PUPPP-ever heard of it?

After going to the doc with itchy rashes overwhelming my belly and spreading to arms, hands, and legs, I found I have PUPPP: Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy. Lovely name eh? Here are some copy and paste statements about it, if you are interested. The rash of PUPPP almost always begins in the stretch marks (striae) of the abdomen. The rash is very itchy, or pruritic, hence the name. This condition is harmless to mother and baby, but can be very annoying. It lasts an average of 6 weeks and resolves spontaneously 1 to 2 weeks after delivery. One study has shown that male fetal DNA can be found in skin biopsies of the rash. Since 70% of women with PUPPP give birth to boys, a new hypothesis is that male fetal DNA acts as a skin irritant.

So I am taking benadryl and lathering on the hydro cortisone in order to keep the itching at bay. I will spare you all a picture of my belly. Just imagine zillions of mosquito bites all over your overstretched belly as well as on the rest of your body and that about sums it up! But thank goodness for drugs...and I'll still take this over bed rest. The babies are nice and cozy inside...Ron's spring break starts now so it would be a great time for them to make their appearance....but I bet I will posting another large belly next week :)

That just doesn't seem fair. I suppose that since you have two baby boys inside of you, that your body most certainly has the prescribed rash.

I'm just so glad that you don't have the rash or stretch marks on your face.

Been there! It will thankfully go away when the boys come... :) I can't belive that they will be here soon - or that you are having twins! It still blows me away! Wish we were there!

Oh, that sounds miserable! I'm glad it's not anything serious that's causing medical problems at least. I sure wish you didn't have to deal with it though. I can only imagine how miserable you are with two little bodies inside of you. Hope it clears up quickly after you deliver. Good luck!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mom and I were hoping PUPPP was a new little puppy with a cute face and wagging tail. Alas! This is even worse than a beagle with diarrhea. I would know about the latter, and I hope I never know about the former.

You're in our prayers.
