Camping and race in Quincy, IL

May 8th and 9th we went to Quincy, IL for a mini-vacation. We went camping, which consisted of: wet forest wood, smoky wet fire, searching for and buying $6 firewood that also smoked, borrowing our neighbor's fire, 8:00 dinner of hot dogs and s'mores, tired kids, and a fire that finally started burning after the kids went to bed...but we had fun and got good and dirty and sticky.

I ran the Bridge the Gap 10k race that crossed the Mississippi twice...one of the most beautiful races ever!

The best part for the boys were the balloon "light sabers" and their cold pizza Lunchables (ick! they think they are such a treat...it's great they can be happy with such simple meals)

This trip reminded us of the beautiful landscape that we miss so much about Iowa. Thanks Quincy for a great trip!

You guys are incredible! I can't believe you ran over six miles, Rachelle. Still, you went camping in soggy conditions with your kids, and both parents look happy.

I think your boys will eat about anything. I mean Ronnie wanted to serve me fish sticks!
Just 3 more weeks until you camp in Nebraska!

Congrats on your run! That does sound like a beautiful run. Maybe I'll look into doing that one of these years. Ezra wants to start training for another marathon next year and wants me to also. I'm thinking maybe a half? We'll see.
