Beat those winter blues!

When winter forces us inside due to freezing temps, sicknesses, snow storms, and a mother who just wants to stay cozy inside, circumstance forces me to use more creativity to keep three children entertained. By 10:00 am, computer and t.v. time is usually used up and I twiddle my fingers and wonder what new exciting activity to engage the kids in. This video shows what we did yesterday and how thrilled Jace was with the activity of pudding painting. Everyone ended up happy in the end as we slurped the pudding. Mind you, it's a terrible video of me...bad hair day, no make up, and bad camera angle (my eyes really are not that baggy or the chin that doubled, or maybe it is!) But I thought it was funny. The other video is what happens when the kids are bored. I have bruises from karate chops to my legs!

So I am calling on all peeps reading this post to give any fun ideas that kids can do indoors! Or if you know of websites that offer fun ideas, I'm open to anything. I want to make it a part of my front page for the winter so people can check it out on my blog . Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

So something I have done with Celeste's girls, Maddie and Sophie that they actually ask me now if we can do is...you take old crayons and scrape them with the scissors and make shavings with them, take a piece of white paper and fold it in half, take the shavings and sprinkle them on half of the page, take a brown paper bag and place the folded paper on it and then place another paper bag on top of it and iron it with a really hot iron and melt the crayon shavings. It makes the coolest patterns on the paper, and if you stick it up on the window, the light shines through and really shows the bright colors! I actually like doing it as an adult also but don't tell anyone :)

LOVE the karate moves! :) That's too funny! I've actually have a few ideas you could do. (I've seen them used in the preschool class I work in.) I'll email you them. :)

We make a lot of forts out of blankets in the front room. All you need is blankets, safety pins and some rubber bands. Gabe loves this!

Try educational computer games, like Jump Start. Also, we like hide-and-go-seek, Wacky Wednesday (everything backwards that day: clothes, meals, etc.), puzzles, reading a huge stack of books, popping popcorn, writing letters, cleaning up toys, making muffins, arranging lunch to look like people, going to Michael's and picking a craft to make, painting with watercolors, writing our own books, video skype, video game tournaments (where everyone has to play), puppet shows, treasure hunts, hiding something and playing hot and cold to find it, don't eat pete, eating pretzels into letters, dancing, karate moves to shows' theme songs, singing time, making instruments. Have fun! I'm excited to see other ideas.
Cute, fun videos!

Hide things around the house and have your kids do a scavenger hunt. They might make a mess, but it'll keep them occupied for a while. :)

wow, karate chops are definitely NOT things we see in our house--boys and girls are SO different, I just marvel at it! We are inundated with everything princess. To be honest with you, it gets reall annoying! I wish they were more into cars and trucks and stuff! I'm so tired of princesses! I liked the crayon idea, I think I'll have to try it. Do you have a garage attached to your dwelling? You could always put coats on them and let them ride bikes in your garage--you have to pull the car out for this!
I'll have to give this some more thought to see what I can come up with, it will be a good exercise for my brain, because I have had the same dilemma--since winter here in Idaho lasts like 8 months!

I think you are great and it makes me tired watching all those chops and kicks. I'm so glad you married my son. Love, Grandma Kim

Camera work is much smoother than it used to be! Keep it up! Oh, you can always smash your pumpkins from the top floor. That would be a riot! We used to smash old gingerbread houses from our roof, so why not do the same with pumpkins?
